If you’re going to advertise on social media, three of the most important platforms to understand are YouTube, Instagram, and Snapchat.  Here are a few articles that address tips that you can use to improve your marketing strategies on these platforms.

Remarketing to Website Visitors

If you have put banner ads up on different websites and you are getting clicks to your website but your visitors aren’t following your calls to action, you may need to try video advertisements.  Sometimes these will resonate better with you audience.

Customer Match (aka Custom Audiences/Audience Match)

Pay attention to what customers you’re putting your videos in front of.  Not everyone will be interested in your videos, but other people will be.  Know your audience, and know how to market to those people through video.

Channel-based Placements

Find YouTube channels that match the target audience that you are trying to reach.  Advertise on these channels because the viewers that watch their videos might also be interested in your company.

Keyword Placements

You can allow Google to do most of the work for you when it comes to reaching your target audience by using keywords and allowing them to place your videos based on that.  Your videos will reach more people but they won’t be as selective as to the target audience you are trying to reach.

Mix and Match

If you have multiple target audiences, you can have some overlap with how you reach them in your videos.  Make videos that appeal to multiple demographics so you can reach more people at once.

Switch to an Instagram Business Account

This may seem obvious, but it is important to make sure that you have made this change to your company’s account.  It will make it easier for customers to contact you through Instagram and it will give you access to analytics you wouldn’t get otherwise.

Leverage Sponsored Ads

Instagram ads are fairly cheap and they are a good way to reach your target audience without annoying them.  They also give you the opportunity to use either images or video or even both in your advertising.

Partner with Targeted Influencers

You can partner with people who are already popular on Instagram that have a similar target audience as you to get your message to them through someone they already trust.  Their followers tend to be very loyal to them, so they will listen if that person tells them that your company has something to offer them.

Track the Right Metrics

The analytics that you should be keeping track of are Follower Growth Rate, Engagement Rate, and URL Clickthrough Rate.  These are the best metrics to determine if your strategy is working for you.

Use Hashtags Strategically

Create hashtags that are specific to your company or your current ad campaign.  Make sure that they are unique and will be easy for people to remember.  Also, tag things that are related to the content that you are posting.  That way, people may discover it when they are looking for something related to your company.

Know Your Audience

Know what audience you are trying to attract and what audience you are attracting.  If they don’t match up, you may need to change your strategy.

Know Your Platform

If you haven’t used Snapchat before, rather than jumping straight into it with a company account, start with a personal account.  Test the waters a little bit and figure out what you’re doing before you put your company’s image on the line.

Decide on the Types of Content You’d Like to Publish

There’s a lot you can do with Snapchat so you really have a lot of creative freedom with what you actually post.  You can use it to offer deals to your customers, demonstrate your products, or give a behind the scenes look into your company.  And these are just a few examples.  There’s still plenty of other ideas out there.

Stop Being a Perfectionist

If your videos seem like they were produced in a Hollywood studio, you’re not doing it right.  Your videos need to feel authentic, so don’t try too hard to make them perfect.

Commit

One of the worst mistakes you can make on Snapchat is only posting once a month when you remember the account even exists.  You have to post regularly or people will forget about you.

Now you should have a good grasp of the approach you should take on each of these different platforms.  They’re all a little different, and so is your company.  You’ll have to do a little bit of experimenting, but you can find something that will work for you.
