Email Marketing can be a great way to interact with customers that are really interested in knowing more about your company. But you may not know how to get started. Amy Schmittauer made a video explaining the 5 steps to start email marketing. Here’s what she had to say.
Pick an Email Platform
You should pick an email platform like MailChimp that allows you to store all of the email addresses on your mailing list in a way that makes it easy for people to subscribe and unsubscribe. It will also make your emails look more professional because they won’t be coming from an somewhere like Gmail.
Create Your Main List
The first thing you should focus on is your main email list. Don’t try to segment into different lists until you already have your main one the way you want it to be. You should name the return sender something that people will be able to recognize in their inbox. Don’t name it something too cryptic or people might unsubscribe without even realizing that it’s coming from you.
Create First Autoresponder
This is the email that will be sent to people automatically when they first subscribe to your email list. You can set up a few more that will be sent out after a few days or weeks of them being subscribed. You can use this as an opportunity to ask your customers what you can do to help them. This will give them a chance to communicate with you.
Create Opt-in Forms
Now that you have everything ready, you need to let people know about your email list and give them a way to subscribe to it. You can put this form in the sidebar of your website so that it will show up on every page. Another good option is to put it at the bottom of your “About” page. Once people have read about your company, they can decide whether or not they want to hear more from you.
Prepare First Email Campaign
You should be sending out newsletters regularly through your email list. Let your subscribers know how often you are going to email them. This will help to keep your customers happy. Also give them the option of unsubscribing at the bottom of every email.
Successful Email Marketing
Uber has been successful in their email marketing because of simplicity and consistency. Their emails are short and simple, describing a promotion quickly and offering more information for people who are interested. They are consistent with the rest of the company’s branding on social media and their website, using similar colors and patterns.
Now that you know how to get started with email marketing and you have an example to give you some inspiration, you can have the confidence to start your own email list. The steps are simple. All you have to do is get started.
